For the last out of a perfect game ( is it 20 in history ? ) , and a close play at first , why was Joyce so out of position ? He was down the line instead of being at an angle to make that call . He had time to move and didn't . He is a stand up guy for the post - game comments / apologies . However , Galarraga deserved his moment on the field , and in the books . And speaking of Galarraga , what class .

I am a rabid Tigers fan - my first game ever was with my Dad at Game 1 of the 68 World Series. Gibson vs. Lolich, Gibson stuck out 17 Tigers. I don't remember but I was there.

Anyway, as much as I would like to see Galarraga get the first perfect game in Tigers history, baseball is a game of record. The 28th batter came to bat and grounded out to third. It's in the books and it should be left there.

I couldn't say it any better than Donnie Deutsch did this morning. No one remembers who threw no hitters last year and the rest of the panel took a minute to come up with Dallas Braden, Ubaldo Jimenez and Roy Halliday - but 20 years from now, baseball fans will still know Jim Joyce and Armando Galarraga. As much for Joyce immediately admitting he was wrong and talking to the entire Tigers locker room and apologizing as well as the pure class and grace Galarraga showed.

His smile immediately after Joyce's call spoke volumes about his character.

And they say it's only a game???
